Controlled Photography

With this image I aimed for creating a double reflection effect that could create an abstract style. I took this photo by pointing the camera toward the mirror while the subject was beside me, I had to make sure that I would not be seen in the photo. I also wanted the light from the white tinted window to fall on one side of the subjects face leaving the other in shade, highlighting the subjects focused facial expressions giving the illusion that she is thinking about something deep. The limitations were that I would like the light to be more sharp coming from the window and also for the lower part of the mirror to be bigger in order to capture the full face. For this photo I used ISO 200 and F stop 4.5 with the 'shade' white balance feature.

This photo was taken by my partner Ella and her intention was to create a reflection in the window of the subject. I think she successfully did this as you can see the other side of the subjects face, it creates an effect that the reflection appears to have a different facial expression from the subject. The subjects facial expression is serious whereas the reflection appears to be smiling. She also aimed for the natural light to fall on the subjects full face. The limitation of this photo is that it's a bit out of focus.  For this photo she used ISO 800 and F stop 4.2 with the 'tungsten bulb' white balance feature.

For this photo I aimed for using the natural light to illuminate the subject and also for the building behind to reflect in the puddles. To take this photo I turned the camera vertically in order to capture the subjects full body and I took it from a lower angle. The limitations of this photo is that I could have reduced the depth of field so that the background could be out of focus. Also the photo would have a stronger motivation if the subject would be looking out of the door like in the photo below but I don't like how dark that on is. For this photo I used ISO 400 with the F stop 4.5 and the 'tungsten bulb' white balance feature.

With this photo I was aiming to get the light that is behind the subject to illuminate the whole frame and give it a basement-isk look. I attempted to replicate the style that is present in the grunge rock bands 'Nirvana' music video 'Smells like teen spirit'  Image result for nirvana smells like teen spirit
The limitation were that I did not have access to a smoke machine like it is presented in the video, this would have enhanced the grungy style I was aiming for. Also I wish the subjects face was lit from a different angle so that there was shade only at the top of her head and that the photos in the background were not there. For this photo I used ISO 100 and F stop 3.5 with the 'shade' white balance feature.

This photo was also taken by Ella and her aim for the photo was to use the natural light and allow it to light up the subjects face, creating  the effect that she is staring thoughtfully into the distance. She also aimed to have a reflection from the window creating a mirroring split image. The limitations were that we could not go outside as it was raining and that I could have shifted a bit forward allowing the reflection to be fully visible. For this photo she used ISO 800 and F stop 3.5 with 'daylight' white balance feature.

With this photo I aimed for using the natural light to light the subject up completely. I also wanted the light from the inside to be visible, therefore I positioned myself lower and moved to the side so that the light bulb in the corridor behind could be seen and create rays of the light to be visible. The limitations were that it was raining therefore the photo had to be taken quickly. Also I wish the light bulb was bigger to make it more effective. In this photo I used ISO 200 and F stop 4.5 with the 'fluorescent' white balance feature.

Comments

  1. A fine series of images with a coherent analysis - and I'll reiterate my comments upon your first presentation.
We'll being attempting to narrow the depth of field during today's lesson, with the proviso that the aperture in our cameras will not widen sufficiently to create real out of focus backgrounds; nevertheless, we'll try!
